This wonderful international organisation is not a
business or marketing organisation, but gives all members the opportunity to appreciate
the wonderful diversity of food available to us. It's open to everyone -
producer and consumer, young and old. I would love to see many more Irish
members because we really do have a rich heritage which is all too fast being
lost. For example how many present day farmers remember any member of the family
making butter or many other products? By supporting those who are working and
trying to make a living doing some things without mass production. Small can be
beautiful even in food production!
The first national SLOW Food event was held here in West Cork in March 2003 and
many other events are planned on an ongoing basis in Cork, Dublin, and Kerry, so
check the Slow Food Ireland
website. The convivium leaders are more than helpful and you really will enjoy
any event you decide to attend.
On the West Cork front, we don't get a chance to get to some of the events
because of the pressures we're under, but they're always good fun. The West Cork Convivium leader is Clodagh
McKenna. Get in touch with her if you have any queries.
