Our approach to welfare & additive free meat:

We take pride in rearing happy pigs and cattle - stress free animals resulting in delicious meat. All animals live as naturally as possible - free range and out of doors. Our animals deserve the best we can give them. We use a small local abattoir to avoid long stressful journeys for both our pigs and Irish Angus cattle.
dot   Range free.
Outside in all weathers, eating or sleeping (and dreaming of eating!), rooting in the ground, socialising - our pigs have the the freedom to choose. They have 24 hour access to shelter and water as well as space to root. Pigs are natural ploughmen and no green area remains that way for very long. One ditch is a memory as a result of their endeavours!
Humane husbandry
No castration, teeth cracking or tail clipping. Our pigs grow at the rate nature intended, maybe a little slower than other methods, but the results in terms of quality and flavour bear out our philosophy.

dot   Our pigs' diet

NO  food containg meat derivatives or G.M. products. No antibiotics or other growth promoting additives are used on the farm. Our pigs' noses are not ringed so they are free to root.
dot   Our cattle
Our small Irish Angus suckler herd is outdoors all year round and apart from the green grass for which Ireland is so famous, we feed them hay in winter and supplementary feed from the local co-op - again no G.M. products.
dot   Our farming philosophy
Farming in one of the most beautiful parts of the Ireland, we want to conserve our wonderful countryside while rearing happy animals. Since we moved to Caherbeg, we have planted a large orchard and other trees - although we're not so good at cutting the grass in the orchard due to a lack of time more than anything else!
